Good News!

So i have been HELLA busy with finals, now I am at home needing inspiration for sketches..and trying to feel better about being single, which is not exactly exciting right now :/ BUT, good news! I got an internship which starts in a couple of days. I'll be representing Columbia on http://www.collegefashionista.com/ !!!! I will be scouting out trendy fashionistas around campus..taking pics...and submitting a description with it! From now on, I shall be posting where you can see it, so please catch up with em! This website is brilliant and has a scouter for basically every school EVERYWHERE! no joke..check it out aspiring fashionistas!

As for the last couple posts(excluding the sex and the city one) , they were for my final project for my Visual Merchandising class, where I had to create a theme for Barneys Department Store. I got an A in that class, so all the work payed off. Now that First semester is done, which was filled with projects and sketches, I'll be able to start making clothes next semester!

Columbia Trend Spotting

The seasons are definitely changing, and you know what that means—

it is time for us to bust out our favorite winter coats and strut our stuff

out there in the cold. As I searched around the Chicago grounds of

Columbia College, I had seen coats in many colors, shapes, and sizes,

but there was one that really caught my eye. Here, this 50's vintage

inspired fashionista is totally rocking the camel colored trench coat.

Neutral colors are a must this season, and she has perfectly captured

that, by wearing camel, brown, gray, and black; these colors walked

straight down the runway and are so easy to work with.

What I personally think “makes” the outfit, is the fabulous hat.

Again with the trendy camel color, it also includes a coffee-bean

-brown mesh material. With that all bunched up together, it creates

a classy and sophisticated element to not just the hat, but the whole

outfit. The finishing touches are leather brown gloves, plaid scarf,

and gray stockings, making it the ultimate 50's chic look.

Then, trench coats were known as the “detective coats”, as seen

in movies. Now they are one of the most common garments seen

throughout all the seasons. Like Sherlock Holmes,

this fashionable college student can definitely pull off the wool

trench coat and hat looking sophisticated. Whether it's solving

crimes or mysteries like Holmes or just walking to class, it is

a given that you have solved the way to a successful outfit.

It's been so long...

So sorry I haven't blogged in a while!

   I was having some troubles with stress lately, mainly because of the homework load, distance between the boy and I, and my homesickness :( But I am fine now! All is well, and I am back on track now. Since I cannot cover EVERYTHING that has happened since I wrote to you all last, I will highlight some of the...well, highlights of my month!

October: 

*Visited Gordito at U of I-BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS!

*Family came to visit me here in the big city!! I was a lil homesick, so it was great to see them!

*Was a victim of a almost successful mugging moment! So awful, NEVER RIDE THE GREYHOUND!

*Received awesome grades during midterms-success!!!

*Cold weather has arrived! Got to bust out my awesome coats and boots!

*Bought a pair on knee-high boots...yikes!

*Friends Lizzi and David visited me for a weekend of fun... :)

*Had the worst week of y college life... uh oh.

*Watched movies like Anastasia and Labyrinth

*HALLOWEEN! Gordo came to visit :D He was Waldo, and I was Katy Perry!

*Dyed my suitemates hair red

*Found out my other suitemates is transferring...lame!

*Realized who I am going to spend the rest of my life with...   <3

The sun!

Hello readers, 

    The sun finally came out today! I have not seen the sun in what seems like weeks, sadly, but it has been rather cold here. I was not able to write for a short while because I came down with a cold and have been sleeping when not in classes. I did not have class until 2 o clock today, so I was able to rest and touch up on my rough draft that was due. I was assigned to write about a discovery--a discovery that was important in my life right now. So, I decided to write about love. As most of you know, I have been dating this boy I know for quite some time now, and wrote about him, our love, and how he and the sun relate to each other. I know that may sound weird, but it really is not. I had a friend speak to me the other night asking what love was like and if it were like the sun, as he imagined it; I totally agree with that. 

Here is the concluding paragraph to my paper:

Without the Sun, Earth could not support life; the Sun gives off heat and light that the Earth needs to support everyone. The light and the heat that beam from the sun are what I look forward to everyday. It is something I truly love and will always love until the end of time. My love for the sun is eternal and will not end. My love for the sun is powerful, strong, and intense—it is what makes me survive these days. Even though I am very far away from the sun right now, I know that we will be together again when the time comes for us. The sun is what I need to live off of and is what I am longing to holding hands with again, kissing it's lips, and feeling it's warmth beam on my skin. This sun was my discovery, and I love him oh so very much. 

       After class, I walked back to my room and grabbed some lunch with my suite mates Taylor and Rachael. We arrived back to our rooms feeling full, but were ecstatic because we had received netflix in the mail! It was Pride & Prejudice-my favorite movie, to be honest with you. The story, the chemistry, the setting, the dresses...it is such a beautiful movie! The movie was perfect, besides the fire drill in the middle of it that interrupted us, but we all still cried and felt happy, as a girl should after watching that movie. Then, we had a "brilliant" idea: to watch The Notebook! WRONG IDEA. 

      After writing about love, and watching two sad romantic movies, we all cried our eyes out. I don't mean the silent sobbing to yourself kinda thing, I mean the sobbing where you are crying so hard to the point where you are out of breath. Of course, while crying, Gordo(my significant other =] ) wanted to skype. Still covered in tears, I feel like we all frightened him with our crying and swollen eyes. Even though I cried a lot today, it still felt good to. I have been a quite homesick lately, and have been missing my boyfriend a lot, so I feel like a good cry was needed.  

On a happy note, I only have three more days left of classes this week, then I am off to Iowa with my suite mate Taylor! After that weekend, I am expecting my two best friends the weekend after, THEN the weekend after that, I am going to to visit Gordo!! THEN after that, my brother is coming to town! THEN after that, my mother is arriving! THEN after that, haha, it is Halloween!

October is sure to be a GREAT month :)

I absolutely loved reading Pride & Prejudice, Jane Austen is someone who I definitely admire. I also enjoyed the movie, SO MUCH! Keira Knightley is a great actress.

Here are other movies I watched earlier this week while sick!! Also fantastic movies--I have been watching most movies set in the 1800s (besides the notebook).

laundry

      Well, it is 2am...couldn't sleep, so I am up doin' some laundry--joyous. On the plus side, I finished a project today that I am excited to present tomorrow in my Visual Merchandising class~my fav one so far~ on Ruben Toledo. It was very interesting to learn about this Illustrators life. Not only is he married to Isabel Toledo, who designed a couple inaugural outfits for Michelle Obama, but he is also Cuban! He and his wife have been spending their lives in a fabulous NYC apartment, helping each other out with sketches, paintings, designs, etc... To me, they are the perfect couple. It took some time considering I had to borrow my friend Dani's printer, but it is an eye-catching finish!

     Flashing backwards to last night, I decided to sketch in my spankin' new sketch book while a friend crashed on my floor because of roommate issues. Amazingly, I have a finished product! I got my inspiration from the photo on my blog--of Emma Watson during her Teen Vogue shoot. I also started to write in my journal for my design class. It is a journal of inspirations; things we see around us that inspire us. So, the journal if for me to write or sketch whatever I see on the streets; internet, movies, etc..., and save it to look back on.

It's that time folks, time for me to run down for the downy cycle! Hopefully I can get some sleep and wake up for my 9am class tomorrow...woohooo!

Sunday!

Today has been filled with laziness, homework, collage making, and cups of pumpkin spice lattes. It's cold here in this windy city that I live in, I even had to bust out my wool winter coat last night! I was out and about running errands the other night for my design class, so I had to go to Blick Art Supplies...which was confusing. I had never purchased any intense art supplies, so I spent quite a bit trying to find each item on my list.

Next week, I have to start sketching in my design class which will be...interesting? I'm a little nervous I must confess; I have never liked my sketches from home, so I am taking this class to help me better my sketching and hopefully my sewing. Unfortunately, the homework load in that class, plus the other 4 classes I am taking, have assigned me a "shit load" of homework. Papers are needed to be typed, books need to be finished read, poster boards are needed to be made--it's just all this book work which I really do not enjoy.

On the plus side, I got to see my sister this weekend, go thrift shopping, and make dance videos with a friend on my floor. Some of my pals and I went to Wicker Park to check out the consignment shops. I found a store I really liked called Crossroads that had great prices, even for designer pieces! I bought a purse for 10 bucks that was one of the unused items in the store, AMAZING. I applied there and am supposed to call tomorrow to see if I get the job! CROSS YOUR FINGERS!! Then we all headed over to Buffalo Exchange, which is another store like Crossroads, but a little expensivo. I ended up finding a large, soft cardigan from the mends section--it was only 9 bucks! My mother would be so proud.

Saturday night, I went out to CVS across the street to get some nail shtuff, and bumped into fall decor! Now my door is covered is a garland of leaves, and my room is filled with pumpkin scented candles. I'll soon be back there to purchase the 2 for $10 light-up pumpkins for our window! Can't wait for the holidays! It's my favorite time of the year :)

Oh, I hope everyone is enjoying my fashion sets I have been making! I needed to make a couple for my visual merchandising class, but now I am starting to create my own so I can get some practice on visual displays. There will be a lot updated every week, so get used to it haha.

Well, time to get some more work done and to refill another cup of this delish latte-yay fall!

Where to start?!?

I have a ton of homework, but I though I would just say a few, brief words...

Marc Jacobs spring 2011 collection was beautiful! The colors, fabrics, cuts, I mean...I was in awe. I know it is always the case when aspiring fashionistas are always talking about well known designers, even though you are really supposed to reach for those new, upcoming ones, but his work is just fabulous! I hope I can watch one of his shows live at fashion week, not live from my dorm room on my comp, haha.

First Day!

Hello all!

Today is the day!!~first day of classes is what it is! Luckily for me, I only have one class every Tuesday which is from 2:00-3:20, so I was able to sleep in this morning. Unfortunately for me, the class is Writing Rhetoric 1....fun. So, while I am sitting here at this computer eating trix yogurt, I am uploading pictures to facebook from my fun weekend! My boyfriend, Gordon, came to visit from U of I for 3 days. We did a ton of stuff, including the skydeck at the sears tower, jazz festival, greek town, and just hanging in my room keeping each other company. On a sad note, I finally had to say goodbye to my mom, brother, and sister who had been here on vacation after moving me in. I definitely am feeling a little home sick, missing my puppy at home :(

After he left last night on the greyhound, all my roomies and myself watched Moulin Rouge...aka the saddest movie EVER! My eyes are super swollen right now, so it is kind of difficult to write this right now haha.

So there is this website called Polyvore that I have been using for a couple of years now that has great fashion trends, and can even give you prices of all the clothing in the collages that are made. Now, I am not saying it is cheap, but there are some great finds on there!
www.polyvore.com is the website! I have decided to start making my own creations, then I shall start posting!
